Hi,
I was hoping to find someone who could answer some questions for me! I have been home for 8 years with my children and also have operated a home daycare during that time. Last August I took the EMT-B class at my community college just to see what it was about and to get out of the house!! I really enjoyed the class and I received my certification in February this year. I decided that I wanted to continue on to paramedic school since my youngest will be entering kindergarten this fall. I am very excited and scared about this new venture but I really feel like it is the right career path for me. My problem is that my husband does not feel the same way. All he can see is the negative aspects and it is really bringing me down. He thinks I will be gone all of the time, I will be working with only men, I will change as a person because of the stress and it goes on. He cannot talk me out of this so that is not the issue but I was wondering if there were some "married with children female paramedics" out there who could give me some insight on what it is like to have this job and a family? I thought working 24 hours and being home 48 sounded great. Right now with my daycare, I cannot go to any school functions that my children have unless I want to haul 7 kids with me. It is almost impossible to go to the dentist or doctor and not to mention, I am sick of keeping kids!! So if anyone has any time to respond, I would be thrilled to hear from you!
Thank you!
Jennifer
