I was on vacation from work this past week, but it was one of the busiest vacations I've ever had. LOL. We saw the "The Two Towers" on Monday after my dentist appointment in Arlington. That movie kicked ass!!!! :D On the 24th I was at my station for my paramedic internship all day until 10 p.m. On Wednesday I didn't do much of anything, and that was dandy. Thursday I was back at my station until 10 p.m. Friday we slept in, then had to rescue James' car from the still-iced-over road (I've discovered my car can tow quite a load!), then did grocery shopping, then watched a movie (Steven King's "Rose Red" — not bad). I didn't get to bed until after 1:30 a.m., and I was up at 6-ish on Saturday to go back to the station again until 10 p.m. Whew! With a vacation like that, who needs work? LOL.

My internship is still going really well — my preceptor and the rest of the shift are great guys. But I still don't think I'll get my 50 calls in before I'm supposed to take the National Registry test the first weekend of February, but I officially don't care. LOL. I'm exhausted! Besides, I'm in no hurry ... I already have a day job. The paramedic thing is just something I want to do on the side. So if I have to wait a few months before Registry, that's fine.

With all the time between calls at the station, my first crochet project is coming along well — I'm about two-thirds done with James' scarf! Of course the guys at the station give me grief for doing "chick crafts." LOL. I'm a chick, whadayawant?! They all want afghans now. Ha.

Got my grades — four "A"s and one "B." I can't believe I actually took that many classes this semester. Ha ha. My overall GPA is a 3.78something. Woo hooo!

We had a good holiday ... I also treated myself to a new toy with some of my bonus money ... a Palm M130 handheld. I ordered it from Amazon.com (they had the best rebate — $75), and it took one day to arrive! I took it to my internship today, and it came in so handy for taking notes about our patients' vitals and history and meds on the way to the hospital; that way I don't have to haul around my paperwork. I love it. :) I also downloaded a couple of EMS applications with drug dosages and whatnot. Neato!

Bad news ... my old college roommate, Beth (Mytczynsky) Jorgensen, died of cancer on Sunday the 15th. :( She fought it hard; it started out as breast cancer a couple of years ago, but it metastasized to her brain. Her is her obituary.

I'm going to make a donation to the Young Survival Coalition in her memory.

It's amazing what this ice is doing to these trees! We lost one on the side of the house — it finally just snapped under the weight of the ice, and it came within *inches* of the phone line! Here is the tree, plus some other pictures:

    Whoops! It broke. :(

    Faerie statue, coated with ice...

Our lantern, hanging from one of those stake hangers...

The green man on our fountain, with a coating of ice...

The woman on our fountain, also with lots of ice...

This is a crescent moon candle holder stake that is out in front near the fountain.

This is an iced-up vine hanging in front of the rock face just next to our house ... I liked the colors. :)

We have a big ice event going on here. :) I'm home from work again because the roads are a mess! It's pretty to look at, though:

We keep hearing these big "crack!" sounds as the trees either break or throw off the ice. It's supposed to warm up to about 40 degrees F tomorrow, so hopefully I can get to work, then school to take my final! Woo hooo!

Snow!! We got a bunch. :) More the other places because we're on a mountain, too. It was still snowing up here at 4 p.m. when it had stopped hours earlier in the DC metro area. Everything looks pretty. I didn't go to work on Thursday — when I called my boss this morning, she told me that the roads were too bad and that I should just stay home. Okay, boss! :D

And now for some snow pictures ...

    The front deck in snow!

A view down the driveway ... no really, it is a driveway!

Me, up to my shins in snow!
